Ascension Relieves First Day of School Jitters for Students and Parents
Amarillo, TX- The first day of school can cause anxiety for both students and parents – particularly if there is a new school involved. That’s why the Ascension Academy administration has been working all summer to make the students and parents of our largest student body ever feel more at ease by giving them the personal attention they deserve! Even with a current enrollment that has grown 90 percent in the past two years, our dedication to personal attention takes the same priority as always.
At Ascension, every student is treated like an individual beginning with Registration August 19, at 3 p.m. When families arrive for registration, they will only have to visit the stations they need, making the process quick, efficient, and simple.
After registration, all of our families are invited to attend the Back to School Picnic at 5 p.m. This is a great way for all of our new families and current families to get to know one another before the first day. Most of Ascension’s faculty and staff will also be in attendance.
Finally, at 6:15 p.m., August 19 Ascension administrators will host the New Parent Meeting. This meeting is intended to reassure new parents about everything from “Where do I drop off my child” to “What if she forgets her homework?” We want our new parents to feel confident that they know the ropes before they bring their kiddos the first day.
In addition, Ascension’s Director of Admissions Ann Martin along with Student Council will host New Student Orientation Friday, August 20, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. This is a special day for all of Ascension’s new students (our largest new student body ever!) in which they will be able to find their lockers, go through their classes, find out “what not to wear” by watching student council members perform in skits, and participate in a variety of bonding and leadership activities.
Finally, Ascension will host, as always, the Opening Convocation August 23 at 8:15 a.m. in the Ascension Cafetorium. We invite all of our students’ family members to attend Convocation during which we introduce each class and hear an inspirational sermon by Ascension Head of School Dr. William Summerhill.
