Community Service
Community Service at Ascension Academy
An Ascension Academy education is designed to prepare students for lives that make a significant impact on the world they will be helping to lead as adults. This involves providing them with the academic tools they will need to be successful in college and career. But it also entails helping them develop a commitment to helping others.
Students at Ascension Academy are given a number of opportunities to help others through volunteer service projects directed by the Student Council, classes, teams or clubs. Ascension students are expected to demonstrate good community spirit and citizenship by assisting teachers, peers and staff persons in caring for routine and special needs of the community.
A service learning component of the curriculum is being developed for all Ascension students to go into effect starting with the 2010-11 academic year. Students will be required to complete community service hours each year that give them valuable experience helping others in meaningful volunteer work. Details of the new program will be finalized and made available to Ascension students by the summer of 2010.
