Ascension Academy Celebrates 25 School Years with Special Events

 

Amarillo, TX — Ascension Academy will host several special events this school year to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Ascension Academy began as the shared vision of a group of concerned parents and educators in the 1990s. These individuals recognized the need for an independently-run secondary school that would provide a safe, nurturing, faith-respecting, and academically-challenging environment for young people in the Amarillo metro and surrounding area. After years of planning and preparation, the Ascension Academy Board of Regents welcomed the school’s first group of students in September 2000. The full Ascension Academy history can be found HERE.

The community is invited to celebrate 25 years of excellence at Ascension Academy with special events planned for both alumni and the public.

Veterans Day
The school began its celebration on November 11th with its annual Veterans Day program, which featured an alumni guest speaker from the Ascension graduating class of 2019,  IS2 SW/IW Gus Sage- US Navy. Gus shared his positive experiences at Asension, which well-prepared him for a career in the military. He noted that current students should cherish their time in school as they create memories that will last a lifetime. 

Christmas Chapel & Concert 
In December, Ascension hosted its annual Christmas Chapel featuring Ascension's Orchestras, Choir, and Wind Ensemble. This program also welcomed back some beloved Ascension Alumni. Sarah Winchester ‘19, Harlee Virden ‘23, John Luke Green ‘23, Alex Wan ‘19, Brianna Davis ‘21, Anna Bartley ‘17, Kaydee Sessions Veale ‘17, and Joshua Kuehn ‘11 performed with the Ascension Orchestra. 

Alumni Holiday Gathering
In early January, Alumni from the Class of 2014 to Class of 2025 gathered for a casual dinner over the holiday break to reconnect with classmates and select faculty members.

Homecoming Festivities
Ascension Academy will add 25th anniversary flair to its Homecoming weekend, where the boys' Varsity basketball team will face Christ the King from Lubbock for their homecoming game on Friday night, January 30th. Friday evening will also feature a pre-game tailgate party and Senior Night presentations. On Saturday, January 31st, an alumni reception will be held, followed by a school tour, offering an opportunity to reminisce about their school days. An RSVP link for Alumni is available HERE.

Anniversary Spirit Shirts
25th Anniversary gear is available for purchase! Items will ship directly to your home. Alumni will have the opportunity to add a special alum indicator to their shirts. Order HERE.

In addition to a spring music concert, other events are still in the planning stages and will be announced after the first of the new year. The 25th Anniversary page on this website is the best place to check for details and updates. Occasional updates will also be shared on the school’s Facebook & Instagram pages.
