The Ascension Academy Admission Committee reviews each applicant’s completed file. Accepted students are those that, upon evaluation of the file, meet the following criteria:
The student has the academic ability to be successful at Ascension.
Determination of a student’s ability to succeed is based on applicants’ application essays, admission test scores, report card grades, and teacher recommendations. A student who is not passing all subjects at the time of his/her application may not be considered for admission to Ascension Academy.
Motivation & Effort
The student has a demonstrated history of appropriate motivation and effort.
Appropriate effort includes being attentive in class, consistently completing homework, and being prepared for class. The student has achieved grades that are compatible with his/her ability.To determine if a student meets this criterion, the Committee reviews the conduct and effort portions of the report card, teacher recommendations, admission test scores, and report card grades.
The student has consistently demonstrated cooperation with school rules and regulations.
An applicant has demonstrated good conduct and citizenship in class, halls, playground, cafeteria, on field trips, etc., at his/her current and previous schools. To determine if an applicant meets this criterion, the Committee reviews the conduct and effort portion of the report card, teacher recommendations, observation of his/her behavior while on our campus, and insights from the application interview. A student who has been suspended, expelled, or asked to leave any academic environment may not be considered for admission to Ascension Academy.
Respect & Kindness
The applicant treats classmates and all school personnel with respect and kindness.
To determine if a student meets this criterion, the Committee reviews the conduct and effort portion of the report card, teacher recommendations, observation of a student’s behavior while on our campus, and insights from the application interview.
The applicant’s parent(s)/guardian(s) treat school personnel with respect. They conduct themselves in a manner that demonstrates good judgment.
Parents must have expectations of their child that are compatible with Ascension Academy’s high expectations for each of our students. To determine if this criterion is met, the Committee reviews the Parent Application, observations of the parent(s)’ behavior while on our campus, and insights from the application interview.
