Without a plan,

The Texas Panhandle's only private college preparatory school for students in grades 6 through 12
Ascension Academy invites students to consider an exciting after-school program during the fall and spring semester that will combine physical fitness, mental sharpness, balance, discipline and sportsmanship. Coach Jered Wilkinson will be offering a beginning and intermediate/advanced level course in fencing for boys and girls in both middle and high school. A USFCA and Safe sport certified coach with instructional experience at Amarillo College and at camps in Santa Fe, Dallas and Colorado Mr. Wilkinson will work with interested students daily.
Fencing is both a sport and an art, teaching young people coordination, discipline, honor and respect. Sometimes called “physical chess” fencing also exercises the mind in plotting strategy and making quick decisions when squaring off against an opponent. The school will confer one unit of Physical Education credit for those who fulfill the requirements for this semester-long experience.
Along with the physical aspect of the sport of fencing, students will have the chance to learn about the history of swordplay, dueling and weapon evolution. Once students reach a certain level in their training, they are invited to become competitive fencers, with the ability to travel as a team to tournaments across the country. Thus far the fencing team has traveled to Lubbock, Santa Fe, Kansas City Missouri, and Dallas Texas. Each tournament attended has yielded medals to our students, with a few qualifying for Summer Nationals Championships and Junior Olympics. Students under the tutelage of Coach Wilkinson have achieved nationally recognized rankings vastly expanded their athletic abilities.
