Mrs. Lopez has been on the faculty of Ascension Academy since 2000. She is the Director of all Orchestras and is also the Fine Arts Department Chair. Mrs. Lopez has been a member of the Amarillo Symphony and Chamber Music Amarillo, and has been a faculty member of Amarillo College as a cello instructor and Suzuki teacher. She has taught cello lessons, sectionals and ensembles at Interlochen Arts Camp, WTAMU Strings Camp, WTAMU Band and Orchestra Camp, Fiddle Faddle String Chamber Camp, and at the Texas Tech Band and Orchestra Camp. She is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association. Under her musical direction, the Ascension Academy String Orchestra has won awards every year, including Superior ratings, Sweepstakes, Best in Class, and Grand Champions in several contests such as The Blue Bonnet Music Festival and The Winter Park Ski-Music Festival. The orchestra has won State Champions in the TAPPS Instrumental Music Contest, and many members of the orchestra earned TAPPS All-State Musician awards. String students have earned Superior ratings at UIL and Greater Southwest Music Festival, and have earned top chairs in All Region Orchestras and the Amarillo Youth Symphony. In July 2023, Mrs. Lopez taught at the Inter Harmony International Music Festival in Aqui Terme, Italy, and several Ascension Academy music students participated and performed in the festival orchestra and in chamber music concerts.
Mrs. Lopez’s husband, Emmanuel Lopez, holds the Dr. Phillip Periman Chair at the School of Music at WTAMU and is the cellist of the Harrington String Quartet. Their daughter, Susanna, graduated from Ascension Academy in 2012, and their son, Daniel, graduated from Ascension in 2016.
