Biography
B.S. Speech & Theatre, West Texas State University
Teaching Certifications in Psychology, Mathematics, & Elementary Education, UTPB
M.A. Education & Catholic School Administration, Loyola Marymount University
Paula joined the faculty of Ascension Academy in the fall of 2023. Her background is predominantly in Catholic Education. With a 35-year history in education, Paula has taught and/or served as principal at St. Vincent de Paul in Pampa, St. Mary’s Catholic School in Odessa, Holy Cross Catholic Academy, St. Mary’s Cathedral School and St. Joseph schools in Amarillo, St. Mark and Immaculate Heart of Mary schools in Los Angeles, CA and St. Anthony’s in Hereford.
In her free time, Paula is a P.A.T.H. certified therapeutic riding instructor at 7 Star Therapeutic Riding Center, an avid reader and swimmer. She is also a dedicated Star Trek Nerd and attends conventions whenever possible. Many math and science projects completed in her classroom are a product of her love of space travel and astronomy.
Paula is always accompanied by her ADA service dog, Mario. Mario is a standard poodle and is trained to assist as a medically trained alert dog. He is accustomed to being around children in a classroom environment and may interact with the students. While he normally stays in his “place” in the corner, all students are taught to communicate with Mario using specific commands and to remain calm and relatively quiet in class. Paula asks that, should anyone have questions or concerns about the presence of the dog within the classroom, you should not hesitate to speak to her and/or meet Mario
