Tell me and I'll forget. Show me and I may remember.
Involve me and I'll understand.
The Texas Panhandle's only private college preparatory school for students in grades 6 through 12
The study of varied languages and cultures is a vital part of Ascension Academy’s mission to provide a
comprehensive and rigorous education for its students. As the 16th century English humanist and
educator Roger Ascham observed, “As a hawk flieth not high with one wing, even so a man reacheth not
to excellence with one tongue.” Ascension seeks to expand the intellectual horizons of its students by
offering a variety of opportunities to acquire the essential skills of oral and written communication in a
foreign language through our programs in Spanish and Latin. To that end, students may enroll on
Spanish 1A or Latin 1A in seventh grade, progressing into the 1B level in eighth grade and enter the II level of
the language in ninth grade. In either language, Ascension students may extend their studies of the
language, literature, and culture into the Advanced Placement level. It is expected that Ascension
graduates will have completed up through the III level of a particular language.
