What is a House System?

The house system aims to unite students in an exciting way, creating a vibrant community that spans grades and fosters friendships. By blending students horizontally among their peers and vertically across grades, we create a fun and competitive atmosphere where everyone can showcase their talents, cheer on their housemates, and build a sense of camaraderie. Let the games begin and may the best house win!

Structure

To boost social cohesion and create an exciting atmosphere, our school divides all students into four unique “houses,” bringing a lively twist reminiscent of the classic English boarding school tradition. Picture this: each house has its own faculty Head, a group of enthusiastic staff, a couple of spirited upperclassmen known as Prefects, and a lively mix of students from every grade. Each house proudly displays its own color and has a mythical creature as a mascot, all chosen by the founding Heads of House back in 2023. We encourage each house to cultivate its own fun culture with flags, t-shirts, catchy mottos, cheerful songs, community service adventures, and time-honored traditions.

How Does it Work?

We make sure to keep things buzzing with house events happening about once a month! We kick off the year in early September with a fantastic induction ceremony that welcomes new students into their houses. Then in late October, we throw an epic field day filled with a mix of outdoor sports, physical games, and mental challenges. Points will be on the line, and every winning team adds to their house's glory! The excitement continues with a holiday party in mid-December to wrap up the semester on a high note. As spring rolls around, we plan even more spirited gatherings, like a Valentine’s bash, a thrilling game day right before Spring Break, and a final showdown to close the year with a bang! All these events are created and organized by our Heads of House, house Prefects, and our fabulous Head of School, with students always encouraged to share their wild and creative event suggestions.

But wait, there’s more! Points are awarded to houses based on student achievements across the four pillars of Ascension: Scholar, Artist, Athlete, and Leader. Each quarter—and again at the end of the year—the house with the most points earns a fabulous award!

Our belief in the house system is simple: it not only fosters camaraderie among students of all grades but also builds a comfortable environment where everyone feels free to seek help and mentorship. Older students become role models for younger ones, creating connections that transcend academic and social barriers. Plus, the thrill of competition keeps everyone motivated and engaged, especially with awesome awards awaiting at the finish line!
