The Ascension Academy Fine Arts Department allows our artist to develop their talents through Band, Choir, Orchestra, Studio Art, and Theater. Learning to create is part of what it means to be human and having the skills to pursue our artistic nature to fulfill its potential is critical to developing the whole person. The faculty take our artists on a journey from beginners to advanced levels in music, art, and theater.
Music classes include learning proper instrumental and singing techniques, basic music theory, and listening skills. Students learn to interpret their pieces and are able to perform with creativity and confidence. Ascension’s studio artists explore an array of artistic mediums, host art shows, and senior studio artists highlight their portfolios each year in the Senior Showcase. Theater produces two shows a year; a high school show in the fall and a middle school show in the spring, with opportunities to be on stage, behind the scenes, or working hands-on with the technical side of the show. Film students write their own scripts, act, direct, and produce short films.
Ascension Academy graduates often participate in collegiate and professional fine arts after high school by playing in professional orchestras, performing in their college theatre productions, or having installations in local art galleries. The goal of our program is to inspire lifelong musicians, passionate performers, and confident artists.
